Roberto Garvía, PhD in sociology (Complutense University of Madrid). He has a degree in Philosophy and Sociology. He did his doctoral thesis under the direction of the Professor Juan J. Linz. He is a full time professor at the Department of Sociology of the Carlos III University of Madrid and Ninth Prince of Asturias Chair of Georgetown University (2008-2010). He has been Visiting Scholar at the universities of Harvard, Yale, Mozarteum (Salzburg, Austria) and the Max-Planck Institute of Cologne (Germany). He has won international grants and he has received the prestigious Roger Gould Award to the best article published in the American Journal of Sociology for his work about lottery consumption.
