AIMS
The BIOTECHNOPOLIS at Pablo de Olavide University is understood as a new space for innovation located on campus, where both technological and enterprising initiatives foster high quality research and business. This “biospace” is oriented towards biotechnology, which encompasses a wide range of multidisciplinary areas such as agrofeeding, environmental, biomedicine and biocomputing industries.
In this way, Pablo de Olavide University gives strong support to this Biotechnopolis with the aim of becoming a key element in economic revitalization. This will be done by creating new links and agreements between entities generating knowledge, industries and society.
The aims of this BIOTECHNOPOLIS are:
Become an international reference of high quality research.
Promote technological transference and wealth promotion.
Support innovation.
Boost social development.
LOCATION AND PROPOSAL
This biotechnopolis is located at Pablo de Olavide University, between three municipalities: Seville, Alcala de Guadaira and Dos Hermanas. It is, therefore, a highly populated area, with dense industrial activity and outstanding scenic value due to its proximity to the natural area of Guadaira River.
Pablo de Olavide University is conceived as a unique campus, with the aim of both obtaining a better interdisciplinary integration and fostering social activities, teaching, research, housing services and sports facilities in the same geographical area.
Within this campus, the area devoted to develop the scientific and technological infrastructures of this Biotechnopolis encompasses the district located between Miguel de Muzquiz Street in the South, Guadaíra River in the North, Alcalá de Guadaíra in the East and the railway and underground stations in the West. All this takes up 179,335m², around 18 Ha, which is 13,3% of the total surface of our campus.
UPO offers around 50.000 m² to those industries and institutions interested in being part of the Biotechnopolis that is now being developed.

ACCESS
The campus is equipped with excellent communications, given that it has fast-track routes, bus facilities, cycle paths, underground (with a station on campus that connects the University, Seville and Dos Hermanas and another underground line under construction that will connect the university and Alcala de Guadaira). Moreover, the Biotechnopolis area is expected to have a suburban railway station.
RESEARCH CENTRES LOCATED IN THE BIOTECHNOPOLIS
The research centres of recognised standing located and/or under construction in the Biotechnopolis are:
ANDALUSIAN CENTRE OF BIOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT (CABD). Mixed centre UPO-CSIC. Estimated surface: 6.864 m². (http://www.cabd.es/es-home.html).
ANIMAL HOUSE AND RESEARCH SERVICES. Estimated surface: 3.200 m². An extension of 2.236 m² is currently under construction.
FAT INSTITUTE. Institute associated to CSIC. Building with 15.525 m2. (http://www.ig.csic.es).
NATURAL RESOURCES AND AGROBIOLOGY INSTITUTE (IRNA). Centre associated to CSIC that will have an estimated surface of 6.817 m². (http://www.irnase.csic.es).
BIOLOGICAL STATION AT DOÑANA- NATIONAL CENTRE OF BIODIVERSITY AND GLOBAL CHANGE. This institution is planned to be located in a building of around 36.000 m². (http://www.ebd.csic.es).
INDUSTRIES PARK. Future building managed by the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation (http://www.camaradesevilla.com).
