Andalusian Biology Center of Development

On 24 May 1993, the then Secretary of State for Universities and Research from the Ministry of Education and Science (MEC) and the Education and Science advisory board of the Andalusian Council (CEC) signed an agreement to assist in further developing the Biology Laboratory of Andalusia (LAB). On the fulfilment of this agreement, the CEC has constructed a building 6,000m2 at a cost of €600,000, to be the headquarters for LAB and situated on the campus of Pablo de Olavide University. The MEC, through the Advisory Board of Scientific Research (CSIC) has proceeded to furnish the building and provide additional equipment, at a cost of €300,000.

On 18 February 2000, CEC, CSIC and Pablo de Olavide University signed a collaboration agreement on the function of LAB as an initial step towards the creation of the Combined Center ´Andalusian Biology Center of Development´.

On 6 May 2003, the councillor for Education and Science, Cándida Martinez, the rector of Pablo de Olavide University, Rosario Valpuesta and the president of the Advisory Board of Scientific Research, Emilio Lora-Tamayo, signed an agreement that allowed the creation of the Andalusian Biology Center of Development and which will be the first research center in Spain, solely dedicated to this branch of biology.

The Andalusian Biology Center of Development is an operative structure of specialised services for the development of a competitive scientific project as an advanced research center in the field of biology and which generally benefits scientific development in Spain and particularly Andalusia.
