El proyecto

This project aims to investigate the factors that influence the health of the Andalusian population in mature and long-lived ages from a multilevel analysis perspective. It is part of the line of research on Andalusian welfare and social reality, specifically in the sub-line of social challenges: family, aging and/or migratory movements. Few factors contribute as clearly to enjoying a good quality of life in old age as having consolidated a healthy lifestyle by incorporating preventive practices over the course of one’s life. The World Health Organization has adopted the term active ageing to refer to the process of living longer while continuously optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security. However, previous research in the field of public health and social epidemiology has shown that such opportunities can be influenced by the physical and social environment in which one ages, which raises the following question: What are the contextual determinants of healthy aging trajectories and how do they shape the socio-spatial distribution of health of older adult cohorts? A multilevel analysis approach is adopted to carry out a territorialised analysis of the health vulnerability of the Andalusian elderly population. The main objective of this research is to identify the characteristics of the local contexts that can potentially have a greater impact on the health-related quality of life of this population. The project also aims to produce evidence-based recommendations to promote the incorporation of an equity approach into local and regional policies for active and healthy ageing.
