Carmona: the city
Carmona is a relaxing and beautiful
city located 30 km northeast of Seville. Their origins go back to the neolithic
period as the innumerable archaeological deposits that have been found
in the environs demonstrate. It was a city of great importance during Roman
times (from its Latin name, Carmo, the present denomination of the city
comes) and also played an outstanding role in the Arabic period, during
which it got to be, even, capital city of a kingdom. This is easy to understand
as soon as we noticed ourselves of the situation of the city, on top
of a rock, at the end of the Highs of the Alcor. Looking out from the main
terrace of the Inn of Carmona, the highest point in the City, in a Sunday
afternoon, it is easy to imagine to Moor King overlooking the horizon, supervising
his dominions, waiting for the sudden appearance of his enemies...
Carmona has many and remarkable
heritage landmarks, most of them pertaining to the Roman, Arab and medieval
period. In addition it is provided with attractive tourist facilities, with
multitude of Hotels, Restaurants, Taverns, etc... By road the easiest access
is through the N-4 highway, that links Madrid with Seville. Frequent communication
by bus exists with Seville. Carmona is also very close (20 km) to the international
airport of Seville.
