Early Modern History at Pablo de Olavide University in Seville. He received his PhD from the European University Institute in Florence in 1998 and taught as a research fellow at the<span>&nbsp;<\/span><em>\u00c9cole des Hautes \u00c9tudes en Sciences Sociales<\/em><span>&nbsp;<\/span>(Paris), the<span>&nbsp;<\/span><em>Istituto Benedetto Croce<\/em><span>&nbsp;<\/span>of Naples, the <em>Center for the History of European Expansion<\/em> (IGEER) in Leiden University, <em>Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam<\/em>, <em>Li\u00e8ge University <\/em>and at the <em>Institute of History<\/em> (CSIC) in Madrid. Visiting Scholar in 2015 at the Department of History in <em>Harvard University<\/em>; Senior Research Fellow at the <em>Leibniz-Institut f\u00fcr Europ\u00e4ische Geschichte<\/em> (IEG) in Mainz, and Visiting Scholar in 2017 in \u00c9cole Normale Sup\u00e9rieure de Lyon and in 2022 Fulbright in University of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His research focuses on the comparative approach to the history of the mercantile republics of the Netherlands and Genoa, and on the complex constitution of the Hispanic Monarchy, Europe\u2019s first transnational, polycentric and global empire.
