INFOGRAPHICS
As first part of the empirical data analysis of UNTWIST, the project team conducted a cross national meta-literature review of an interdisciplinary collection of 406 articles from feminist, queer and masculinity studies. Based on an inductive analysis, UNTWIST developed a typology of 24 types of gender-based needs located in different policy areas and accessible through different gender perspectives (concepts).

This notebook presents the results of a quantitative content analysis that mapped the representation of sex/gender concepts and issues in 914 large‐scale political and sociological survey questionnaires fielded cross‐nationally in Europe and in six European countries (Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland and the UK) between 2000‐2023.

The UNTWIST project has conducted the most comprehensive analysis to date of party positions on gender issues in Europe. By examining hundreds of party manifestos from six countries (Denmark, Germany, Hungary, the UK, Switzerland, and Spain), and using data from the Euromanifesto Project (focused on European Parliament elections) and the Manifesto Project (focused on national elections), it identifies broader trends and patterns, highlighting the key role of right-wing populist parties in the politicization of gender.

UNTWIST has produced empirical data on how feminist literature and masculinities studies conceptualise gender-based needs, related policy issues and solutions to address them, how switchers voters from mainstream to Right-wing Populist Parties (RWPP) experience their gender identity (Focus Groups), which gender topics are measured in national and international surveys (Existing survey questions) and what kind of gender policies do political parties represent (Parties Manifestoes).
