As first part of the empirical data analysis<\/strong> of UNTWIST, the project team conducted a cross national meta-literature review<\/strong> of an interdisciplinary collection of 406 articles from feminist, queer and masculinity studies<\/strong>. Based on an inductive analysis, UNTWIST developed a typology of 24 types of gender-based needs<\/strong> located in different policy areas and accessible through different gender perspectives (concepts). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNTWIST project has conducted an in-depth qualitative analysis of 18 focus groups<\/strong> with Right-Wing Populist Party (RWPP) switcher voters<\/strong> \u2014 individuals who supported an RWPP in the last elections but had previously voted for mainstream or opposition parties. The WP2, carried out in Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK<\/strong>, explores voters\u2019 perceptions, values, and motivations behind their electoral shifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This notebook presents the results of a quantitative content analysis <\/strong>that mapped the representation of sex\/gender concepts and issues in 914 large\u2010scale political and sociological survey questionnaires<\/strong> fielded cross\u2010nationally in Europe and in six European countries (Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland and the UK) between 2000\u20102023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNTWIST project has conducted the most comprehensive analysis to date of party positions on gender issues in Europe<\/strong>. By examining hundreds of party manifestos from six countries <\/strong>(Denmark, Germany, Hungary, the UK, Switzerland, and Spain), and using data from the Euromanifesto Project <\/strong>(focused on European Parliament elections) and the Manifesto Project <\/strong>(focused on national elections), it identifies broader trends and patterns, highlighting the key role of right-wing populist parties in the politicization of gender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This observable presents the main results of the UNTWIST project survey<\/strong>, a cross-national study that examines how gender-based needs and demands are related to voting behaviour<\/strong>. It is a key component of the project, as it helps test the UNTWIST hypothesis of whether Right-Wing Populist Parties (RWPPs)<\/strong> act as challenger parties by representing specific gender-related needs, demands and fears<\/strong> among citizens previously neglected by mainstream parties. Conducted between 21 October 2024 and 9 January 2025<\/strong> in six European countries<\/strong> \u2014 Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland, Spain, and the UK \u2014 the survey includes 60 closed questions and 110 response categories<\/strong> covering attitudes, opinions and behaviours linked to the project\u2019s main research objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
