He currently is an associate professor of English language and linguistics at that university, and head of the research group \u201cIntercultural studies (English-Spanish): Pragmatics and discourse issues\u201d. His research interests fall within the field of pragmatics, and more specifically within the areas of cognitive, societal, intercultural, interlanguage and historical pragmatics. He has addressed a variety of issues comprising phatic communication, interjections, speech acts, (im)politeness, humour, epistemic vigilance, misunderstanding, L2 learners\u2019 pragmatic performance, procedural meaning, lexical pragmatics or epistemic injustices. Mainly adopting a relevance-theoretic approach, his work has been published in international journals among which are <em>International Review of Pragmatics<\/em>,<em> Journal of Pragmatics<\/em>,<em> Intercultural Pragmatics<\/em>,<em> Language &amp; Communication<\/em>,<em> Humor. International Journal of Humor Research<\/em>,<em> International Review of Applied Linguistics in Language Teaching<\/em>,<em> Language Awareness<\/em>,<em> Lingua<\/em>,<em> Journal of Language Aggression and Conflict, Research in Language, Social Epistemology <\/em>or <em>Pragmatics &amp; Cognition<\/em>. He has co-edited various collections, among which features <em>Relevance Theory. New Developments, Current Challenges and Future Directions <\/em>(John Benjamins), and special issues with <em>Letr\u00f4nica, Pragmatics &amp; Cognition<\/em> and <em>Pragmatics<\/em>.
