El poblado, emplazado por los espa\u00f1oles -en 1537- sobre un antiguo asentamiento aborigen junto al r\u00edo grande de la Magdalena, fue uno de los puertos fluviales m\u00e1s importantes del territorio conocido como el Nuevo Reino de Granada y jug\u00f3 un papel determinante para la conexi\u00f3n del comercio continental y regional hisp\u00e1nico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div conocimiento del pasado prehisp\u00e1nico, colonial y republicano de la villa y sus \u00e1reas aleda\u00f1as, sino que tambi\u00e9n se crean espacios para plantear futuras metodolog\u00edas de investigaci\u00f3n sobre el comercio que permitan dimensionar las capacidades portuarias, los agentes comerciales, las embarcaciones, los productos, as\u00ed como las personas y redes comerciales que
