Alain Hugon

Alain Hugon is a Tenured Associate Professor of Early Modern History at the Université de Caen-Normandie. He was written several books about the Spanish empire and its international projection. His most recent works include La insurrección de Nápoles (1647-1648). La construcción del acontecimiento (2014); Felipe IV y la España de su tiempo. El siglo de Velázquez (2015) and Soulèvements, Révoltes, Revolutions. Dans l’empire des Habsbourg d’Espagne XVIe-XVIIe siècle (2016), coordinated with Alexanda Merle. The proceedings of the Rome symposium (2017) were published in 2019, under the title La violence dans la révolte. Expériences politiques et pratiques culturelles (XVIIe –XVIIe), coordinated with F. Benigno, L. Bourquin and A. Hugon. He has directed a research group about the cultural history of uprising and revolutions in Mediterranean Europe during the Ancien Régime (from the fifteenth until the eighteenth century) (program CURR-ANR 2013-2017).
