Braun estudi\u00f3 en las universidades de Heidelberg y Oxford. Desde 2004 es profesor de la Universidad de Liverpool donde, adem\u00e1s de en este proyecto, trabaja en el grupo \u00abRethinking the Iberian Atlantic\u00bb. Sus temas de investigaci\u00f3n se centran en torno a la cultura pol\u00edtica de la \u00e9poca moderna, con especial inter\u00e9s en la integraci\u00f3n de la historia pol\u00edtica e intelectual, el discurso pol\u00edtico-teol\u00f3gico y la Monarqu\u00eda Hisp\u00e1nica. Una de sus aportaciones principales se ha centrado en el estudio del pensamiento pol\u00edtico de Juan de Mariana.
