Es tambi\u00e9n el Director Ejecutivo del Instituto para el Estudio del Genocidio, una organizaci\u00f3n sin \u00e1nimos de lucro fundada en 1982 para promover la investigaci\u00f3n y el an\u00e1lisis pol\u00edtico sobre las causas y la prevenci\u00f3n del genocidio y la violencia pol\u00edtica. Su investigaci\u00f3n se centra en las causas de dicha violencia a gran escala (genocidio, cr\u00edmenes de guerra, cr\u00edmenes de lesa humanidad), justicia transicional, reconciliaci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica, juicios por cr\u00edmenes de guerra, comisiones de la verdad e indemnizaci\u00f3n. Verdeja es el autor de <em>Unchopping a Tree: Reconciliation in the Aftermath of Political Violence<\/em>\u00a0y coeditor de <em>Globalization, Social Movements, and Peacebuilding<\/em>, <em>Responding to\u00a0<\/em><em>Genocide: The Politics of International Action<\/em> y <em>Genocide Matters: Ongoing Issues and Emerging Perspectives<\/em>. En Notre Dame, es miembro del Instituto Nanovic de Estudios Europeos, del Instituto Kellogg para Estudios Internacionales y del Centro para el Estudio de los Movimientos Sociales, y afiliado del Centro de Derechos Civiles y Humanos de la Facultad de Derecho. \u00c9l tambi\u00e9n presidi\u00f3 durante dos legislaturas la junta de la Asociaci\u00f3n Internacional de Investigadores del Genocidio, la mayor organizaci\u00f3n acad\u00e9mica internacional dedicada a investigaci\u00f3n genocida.
