Nationalism

The study of peripheral nationalisms has generated an endless number of academic works. Nevertheless, the study of Spanish nationalism has received less attention. A group of professors from different Spanish and foreign universities, coordinated by Dr. Antonio Morales, has joined efforts to make a transdisciplinary analysis of Spanish nationalism throughout history.

The study “Nation and Spanish nationalism” has academic objetives which consist of elucidating how the concept of nation in Spain has evolved throughout history and its present. At the same time, efforts are made to find out the actual meaning of “nation”, especially in multilingual communities. In order to do so, the professors hold periodical working meetings at the Ortega y Gasset Fondation where the drafts of their studies are discussed.

A total of 41 professors from different universities and research centers, Spanish and foreign, participate in this project. Here you can find the full list. They are experts in history, literature, economy, politics, sociology who tackle the study of Spanish nationalism and the concept of nation from different points of view. This kaleidoscopic vision allows the participants to have a mutual and intellectual enrichment and tackling the topic of study in a way that guarantees taking its complexity into account.
