Dr. Virginia de Alba Quiñones is a lecturer in the Spanish Language Division at Pablo de Olavide University (UPO). She has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in the aforementioned University. Likewise, she has been a Visiting Lecturer-Researcher at Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf (Germany), Freie Universität of Berlin (Germany) and University of East Anglia (Norwich, England). In addition, she has conducted several seminars at Instituto Cervantes of Berlin and University of Postdam and she has participated as a speaker at various international congresses.
She has carried out research within international networks of Linguistics funded by the European Language Council (TNP3 or MOLAN) and within excellence projects of the Spanish Ministry (“Nuevo diccionario de aprendizaje del español como lengua extranjera”, a dictionary for learners of Spanish as a foreign language, or “BIMAP – Cognitive Academic Language Map in Bilingual Learning”).
Her main research interests are in the areas of pedagogical lexicography, methodology of foreign languages teaching and the development of advanced literacy in both native Spanish-speaking learners and learners of Spanish as a foreign language. Regarding these areas, she has guided two doctoral theses and she has published various works both with publishing houses and national and international journals.
