Las raíces post-imperiales del “imperio informal” y la controversia de Platt con Robinson y Gallagher sobre América Latina (1953-1989)
Informal empire
has returned to historiography with new strength, although it had never completely disappeared. This article explains Robinson and Gallagher’s proposal and the objections it aroused, particularly on the part of D. C. M. Platt. Actually, there were two successive debates. Robinson and Gallagher responded to the end of the British Empire and the rise of US hegemony; Platt to revolutionary Latin America and the “dependency” discourse: phases and theatres of the Cold War.
Policy Brief
One of the outputs of the SIDE Network's work is a political brief, adressed to policymakers, on the historical mechanisms and management of the unforeseen effects of great powers’ intervention in external conflicts.
Teaching resources
The Project includes a seminar on the methodology of history for high school students with a downloadable syllabus on the imperial and commercial reconfiguration of the Age of Revolutions, as well as a series of three mini-documentaries entitled "Rulers of Chaos".
