Production and agricultural prices of rye and wine in some priories of Oseira (1753-1834)

Abstract

The aim of the paper we are presenting is to investigate if the amount of wine and cereal that the main priories of the Monastery of Oseira sent to market throughout 1753-1834 determined the variations in price at which the transactions of these products were made.

Our research proves that the prices of both wine and rye are determined by market laws. When demand increases, prices are lowered and viceversa. From 1792-1820 we can observe the existence of an inflationary process which is not reflected on the amounts collected and sent to market.
