I am Associate Professor in the area of Economic History and Institutions at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide. I studied Economics at the University of Seville and obtained my PhD in History at the European University Institute in Florence.

Throughout my career, I have undertaken research stays at international institutions such as the University of Cambridge (Queens’ College) and Harvard University (Center for History and Economics). These experiences have broadened my vision of economic history and allowed me to connect my work with global debates.

My research focuses on explaining how international trade and finance were organized in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and on the networks of agents that sustained these exchanges. In addition, I specialize in the application of Social Network Analysis to History, a methodological tool that allows us to study how markets and the people who shaped them were interconnected.

I also enjoy traveling and reading, and I hold pacifist values by conviction. I am uncomfortable with the verbal aggression that sometimes characterizes public debate today, and I am sensitive to situations of injustice. I see myself as a consistent advocate of respectful dialogue and of critical thinking grounded in facts rather than in rumors or fake news.
