Editorial Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authorship Guidelines

The editorial team of RES PUBLICA Journal of Law and Criminology has established the following guidelines for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scientific research, applicable to authors, members of the editorial board and reviewers alike. These policies aim to ensure transparency, ethical integrity and the quality of scientific publications.
AI resources may not be listed as authors or co-authors in any publication of RES PUBLICA Journal of Law and Criminology. Authorship implies ethical and intellectual responsibility, attributes that cannot be assumed by an automated system. RES PUBLICA Journal of Law and Criminology will not accept articles whose entire content is generated by AI systems. Authors must guarantee that the submitted manuscript is original, produced by researchers and based on original research. In this regard, articles whose text, data analysis or substantial elements have been created or modified by AI tools will not be accepted. AI tools must not be used to generate the main body of the manuscript.

Authors must ensure the authenticity of their work and be fully transparent regarding the use of any technology, including AI software, in the research or writing process. Where AI is used for minor stylistic matters (such as searching for synonyms or reviewing abstracts in foreign languages), authors must clearly state this in a footnote on the first page of the article.

Declaration of AI Use

The use of AI tools that have contributed significantly to the preparation and development of the work (such as information systematisation or data processing, amongst others) must be clearly specified in a footnote. Authors must describe the type of software used and its purpose. Failure to acknowledge this will be considered a breach of the Code of Ethics and may result in the rejection of the scientific article. By submitting their articles, authors undertake to acknowledge that the misuse of AI may have academic consequences and violate the institution’s integrity policies. The journal may request further details regarding the use of AI and reject manuscripts that do not comply with these standards.

Use of AI for stylistic review, proofreading and text enhancement

It is not necessary to declare the use of AI tools when they are used solely for proofreading, improving the wording, or ensuring the stylistic consistency of academic manuscripts. Such applications are permitted provided they are not used to generate new content or rephrase the text. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the final version of the manuscript is original.

Use of AI by reviewers

The use of AI by reviewers of RES PUBLICA Journal of Law and Criminology is prohibited during the evaluation of scientific articles. Academic peer review must be based on the reviewer’s critical judgement and experience, without the intervention of automated tools that may affect the impartiality and confidentiality of the review process. These guidelines promote the ethical use of AI in academic research and aim to preserve the authenticity and originality of publications.
