The primary objectives of this project are to develop Machine Learning-trained, open-source force-field models for Molecular Dynamics molecular simulation of mixed oxides and mixed halides aimed at prediction of bandgap energies, defect energies and mobile defect concentrations in compositions of critical interest for photovoltaics and water-splitting applications. The thesis will also include generation of web-based deep neural networks for prediction of photovoltaic and photoconversion performance in emerging solar cells.

Qualified candidates are required to hold, or be in the process of completing, a Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Engineering or a closely related field. We are looking for an individual with a degree in Physics or Chemistry (or related degrees), who should have scientific programming experience, Python, C++, Fortran, Julia, etc., to carry out the modelling of materials for energy applications using Quantum Mechanical calculations, as well as classical simulations, also coupled with machine learning techniques.

Interested candidates are encouraged to send their application including the following:

  • A cover or motivation letter (maximum 200 words)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Contact information for at least one reference (reference letters are not required at this stage)

Applications should be submitted online via email to nanoSolarUPO@gmail.com or said@upo.es  by July 30th, 2024.
