Working Lines
- To verify the essential role played by republics in the maintenance of the power balance, not only in Europe but also beyond the ocean.
- To analyse the differences and similarities between dynastic and republican state models.
- Religion will be analysed both as a mechanism of protest against tyranny (for example in the Netherlands) and as a mechanism for increasing international recognition (proclamation of Virgin Mary as Queen of Genoa in 1637).
- To study of the mechanisms of economic dependence between republics and dynastic systems. In this sense, the role played by financers and merchants from these republics must be highlighted.
- To analyse the scope and limits of the republican model in Europe.
