The “bottom-up” promotion of SDG 8 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda: an analysis of the fight for $15 social movement

The 2030 Agenda is currently the United Nations' most important instrument for promoting sustainable development in its four dimensions: social, environmental, economic and political-institutional. The great ambitions articulated by the international community around the 2030 Agenda highlight the magnitude of the challenges in implementing the document and demand joint efforts from various actors, not only state actors, but also emerging non-state actors, such as social movements. From this perspective and focusing on the labor issue, the question is to what extent can social movements contribute to promoting the United Nations 2030 Agenda, particularly SDG 8? The aim of this academic paper is to investigate how social movements can contribute to achieving SDG 8, based on actions articulated in a local-global network. For this analysis, the Fight for $15 social movement was evaluated. The research undertaken is exploratory, with a hypothetical-deductive approach, through research into bibliographic references and documents related to the topic.
