Abstract

Reflecting on the images that the media and the Western cinema
often convey about Africa allows us to observe the great imbalance that
exists between the reality of the continent and its media representations.
These mismatches not only distort our perceptions of our neighbors, but
also hamper the egalitarian encounter and the appreciation of cultural
diversity, so necessary for the construction of a global citizenship. From our
European and Western standpoint, in this paper we reflect on the importance
of promoting the knowledge about African cinemas, as they represent
valuable texts, pretexts and contexts for the construction of bridges for a
new coexistence ethics, that of interculturality
