Presentation of the monograph

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the United Nations in 2015, places youth at the centre of global efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As key agents of change, young people play a crucial role in promoting more just, inclusive and sustainable societies. Through their active participation in the implementation of the SDGs, whether in public policy, educational institutions, social entities or civil society, youth have proven to be a vital force in building a more equitable world. In this sense, youth leadership is not only essential to drive change in areas such as social justice, democracy and environmental sustainability, but also strengthens their capacity to influence policy decisions and transform the socio-economic and cultural structures that shape our societies.

In the European context, the European Union has underlined the importance of promoting awareness, guidance and outreach to young people. Youth is seen as an essential driver in the fight against climate change and the creation of resilient and sustainable societies. This perspective drives the need to ensure the accessibility of youth to formative and participatory experiences that allow them to directly influence their social and natural environment, consolidating their role as protagonists in the processes of social transformation.

The monographic ‘Youth and participation. Good practices in socio-educational research and intervention’ aims to make visible, dignify and reflect on scientific and professional experiences related to socio-educational research and intervention from an international perspective, focusing on youth participation and sustainability as key drivers of social change.

In this edition we invite the scientific community to contribute with theoretical works and research studies that promote youth participation and leadership, community development and socio-educational interventions aimed at young people, contributing to the development of critical knowledge that promotes the creation of fairer and more inclusive societies.
