Este clúster tiene como objetivo reducir la degradación del medio ambiente, detener e invertir el declive de la biodiversidad en la tierra, las aguas interiores y el mar y gestionar mejor los recursos naturales a través de cambios transformadores de la economía y la sociedad en las zonas urbanas y rurales.

Además también pretende garantizar la seguridad alimentaria y nutricional sostenible a través del conocimiento, la innovación y la digitalización en la agricultura, la pesca, la acuicultura y los sistemas alimentarios, y dirigirá y acelerará la transición hacia una economía circular baja en carbono y eficiente en recursos y una bioeconomía sostenible, incluida la silvicultura.

El Clúster será clave para cumplir los objetivos del EU Green Deal, al tiempo que contribuirá también en gran medida a otras políticas como An economy that works for people, y A Europe fit for the digital age.

En relación con el EU Green Deal, las iniciativas más relevantes cubiertas son: Climate Action, Farm to Fork Strategy, EU Biodiversity Strategy, Circular Economy Action Plan, Zero Pollution Ambitions and the New Industrial Strategy for Europe.

1. Foster the sustainable use of natural resources across various sectors, ensuring respect for planetary boundaries and inclusivity.
2. Restore biodiversity by implementing measures across the entire economy to put it on a path to recovery.
3. Advance the transition to sustainable, low-footprint, and inclusive agriculture and food systems, ensuring safe, nutritious, healthy, and affordable food for all, thereby guaranteeing food and nutrition security.
4. Promote a circular economy by increasing resource efficiency from design to disposal.
5. Support the bioeconomy and bio-based systems to replace carbon-intensive and fossil-based industries, enhance stakeholder participation along value chains, and strengthen the resilience of rural and coastal communities.
6. Create a toxic-free environment by reducing water, air, and soil pollution to levels that are no longer harmful to human health and natural ecosystems.
7. Strengthen the resilience of agriculture, food systems, forestry, and the blue economy through responsible biodiversity and water stewardship, leveraging nature-based solutions.
8. Develop new governance models aligned with the European Green Deal’s objectives.
9. Leverage the digital transition, including AI adoption, to enhance the sustainability of agriculture, forestry, food systems, circular and bio-based sectors, the sustainable blue economy, pollution reduction, and climate resilience.
