Dialectics, productive forces and emancipation
On the emancipatory powers of scientific knowledge

This article questions the progressive role that technical and scientific advances can play in the processes of social change. To do so, it draws on the Marxian critique of political economy. From this perspective, it evaluates the relevance of understanding dialectical knowledge as a necessary element in any transformation project that aspires to overcome the capitalist mode of production. All this on the basis that, if one aspires to overcome a type of alienated organisation of social metabolism, it is essential to recognise oneself fully in the determinations of one's own action
