About the Journal

Focus and Scope

RELIES. Journal of the Ibero-American Laboratory for the Sociohistorical Study of Sexualities is part of the Ibero-American Laboratory for the Sociohistorical Study of Sexualities (RED LIESS), an international research network that aims to showcase research primarily conducted in the Iberian and Latin American contexts, focusing on the study of the body, gender, and sexuality.

The journal has an open nature and accepts articles from diverse disciplinary fields: Anthropology, Art, Political Science, Health Sciences, Law, Education, Cultural Studies, Philosophy, Geography, History, Literature, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, and other disciplines. Although the preferred research context is Latin America and the Mediterranean world, the journal also accepts contributions related to other geographical areas.

Peer Review Process

The editorial board will conduct a preliminary evaluation to determine whether the article meets the journal's requirements, after which it will be sent to two reviewers (double-blind review system). In cases of discrepancies between reports, the editor may request a third review. The final decision on the article’s publication will be made by the editors of the issue after the evaluation process.

Articles will be published once accepted until the corresponding issue is completed.

Authors should pay special attention to the gender perspective in their research and use non-sexist language. Likewise, reviewers should ensure that these criteria are met.

Publication Frequency

The journal is permanently open to the submission of articles and will publish two issues annually, distributed between the first and second semesters of the year. Articles will be published as soon as they pass the peer review process, without waiting for the issue to close, in order to accelerate the publication process. Additionally, the journal is open to publishing monographic sections related to specific topics proposed by section editors. These proposals will be evaluated by the Editorial Board beforehand. The review process for section articles follows the same evaluation criteria as for the open section.

Regarding Plagiarism and Fraud Policy

The author(s) or submitter holds the journal harmless from any responsibility regarding copyright violations and commits to assisting the journal in defending against any claims, extrajudicial and/or judicial measures.

To ensure compliance with this policy and the procedures followed by the journal to detect fraud and plagiarism and handle complaints, the SafeAssign tool is used. Each submission received will be analyzed using this tool to determine the percentage of matching content with other publications. The editorial team will review the SafeAssign report and decide whether the article should continue with the editorial process. In case of plagiarism detection, the author will be notified.

Plagiarism is defined as the use of ideas, words, work, or data from another person without proper citation. Scientific fraud includes data fabrication and actions against copyright and intellectual property rights.

Ethical Declaration

Regarding Authorship and Contributions The journal’s submission guidelines are public. Authors retain their copyright, are responsible for the content, and guarantee the journal the right of first publication of their work. Authors are responsible for not inventing, copying, manipulating, or distorting the data presented in their research, as plagiarism in any form is a serious ethical violation, and the editorial team will take appropriate measures. If an article is signed by multiple authors, recognition of all authors and their responsibility for the work must be guaranteed.

Additionally, the source of graphic material must be cited, with the necessary reproduction permissions obtained, and the funding sources for the study must be indicated. Published articles will be available on the journal’s website with the corresponding Creative Commons license.

Regarding Ethical Supervision Authors must guarantee that their submission is original, unpublished work, except in cases of translations from other articles, which must have prior authorization from the author. Otherwise, the journal may take appropriate actions.

Reviewers must understand that they are working with a confidential document and may not disseminate or use the information. Their role, free from conflicts of interest, is to objectively assess the sections indicated on the evaluation form within the set deadline (see guidelines for reviewers) and report any known similarities, plagiarism, fabrications, etc.

Corrections, retractions, or removals of published articles will only be made in exceptional cases and after the editorial team has reviewed and approved them. The guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) will be followed (see https://publicationethics.org/).

Authors who use AI as a complementary tool must indicate how and in which part of the process it was used, ensuring responsible use.

Use of Artificial Intelligence
