Abstract

Catalina de Ribera's life, of the Mendoza family that was so tightly tied to the patronage practice, has been traditionally linked to two important Sevillan works, the founding of the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas (Cinco Llagas Hospital) and the acquisition and reconstruction of the Casa de Pilatos (Pilatos' House), a palace where her family lived as of the late fifteenth century. However, the management of her large fortune once she became a widow, her work in architectural promotion in support of other buildings and the ownership of an incipient art collection make her a notable personality at the end of middle Ages in Sevilla.
